Following the EU decision, the Swiss safety authority OSAV (Office fédéral de la sécurité alimentaire et des affaires vétérinaires) banned the use of titanium dioxide (E171) as a food additive in March 2022. The six-month transition period has ended and the ban entered into force on September 15th, 2022.

It is no longer permitted to manufacture or sell foods containing E171 in Switzerland. Food products containing E171 that were manufactured under the old regulations can be sold until the end of their shelf life. The Swiss Ordinance on food additives has been updated to remove E171 as an authorized food additive.
