On 27 July 2021, the FSSAI in India published a notice to provide guidance to food businesses on the approval process for GM Foods.

Since GM food Regulations are still under development in India, the FSSAI have confirmed that any approval of the GM food or GM food substance will be evaluated based on the existing Food Safety and Standards (Approval for Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients) Regulations, 2017.
