The European Union (EU) is considering far-reaching legislation on artificial intelligence (AI) known as the Artificial Intelligence Act and aims to classify AI systems by risk and mandate various development and use requirements.
The Act seeks to promote the uptake of human-centric and trustworthy artificial intelligence and to ensure a high level of protection of health, safety, fundamental rights, democracy and rule of law, and the environment from harmful effects.
European Parliament’s priority is to make sure that AI systems used in the EU are safe, transparent, traceable, non-discriminatory, and environmentally friendly. They also want to establish a technology-neutral, uniform definition for AI that could be applied to future AI systems.
