Australia Seeks Comments on Electrolyte Drinks

FSANZ opens public consultation on draft standard amendments on Electrolyte Drinks and permitted health claims for these products.

Key amendments includes:

– reduce minimum content of glucose and fructose permitted in these beverages
– prohibit health claims other than the 3 listed which are allowed restrict nutrient content claims
– prescribe the use of “electrolyte drinks” as term
– products would be required to display the osmolality “per kilograms” while maintain “per litre” on label
