Brazil Proposed a Public Consultation of Draft Resolution on Novel Foods and Ingredients

On 26 April, ANVISA launched public consultation that deals with the Draft Resolution of the Collegiate Board (RDC) that modernizes the rules, flows, and procedures for the proof of safety and authorization of the use of novel foods and ingredients. The text submitted for public consultation brings a number of regulatory innovations, including:
  • The improvement of the definition of new foods and ingredients
  • The detailing of safety assessment requirements, according to the nature and complexity of new foods and new ingredients
  • The provision of procedures for the preparation and updating of normative lists of new foods and new ingredients.
