Chile to Ban Single-use Plastics

Chilean legislature have passed a comprehensive single-use and recycled plastics regulation. This new law will ban all single-use styrofoam containers, such as cutlery, stir sticks, and straws.

Supermarkets and convenience stores can only sell recyclable beverage containers and beverage containers must contain plastic collected and recycled within Chile.

The new law also introduce a certification for compostable plastics. All changes will take effect between a six month- three year period.
