Health Canada is introducing new nutrition labelling regulations for packaged foods requiring a symbol on the front of packages indicating that a food is high in saturated fat, sugars and/or sodium.
The symbol includes a magnifying glass, it will make it quicker and easier for people living in Canada to make healthier and more informed food choices by identifying foods high in sodium, sugars or saturated fat.
Front-of-package nutrition labelling will complement existing labelling policies and other initiatives, such as the Nutrition Facts table and Canada’s Food Guide.
While the regulations come into force on July 20, 2022, manufacturers have until January 1, 2026, to change their labels and comply with the new requirements.
