GSO Issued ‘Technical Regulation of Cosmetic And Personal Care Products Claims’

Cosmetics Cream And Lipstick

The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) updated its draft “Cosmetic Products – Technical Regulation of Cosmetic and Personal Care Products Claims”.

This regulation standardizes the claims used on cosmetics and personal care products, such as skin care products, hair care products, oral care products and more. It includes definitions, basic guidelines, and examples of unacceptable claims.

Key updates to the draft legislation are as follows:

  • The claim ‘disinfection’ or ‘disinfecting action’ as a secondary claim is not permitted in cosmetic products.
  • A product which presents itself as an antiseptic and antibacterial product for the treatment or prevention of infection and lesions of the skin is likely to be considered as medicinal product by virtue of presentation.

Deadline for comments on the draft legislation is by 7 September 2021.
