Argentina Discusses Vegan Definition & Labelling for Food Products

Plant Based Meat Burger

In order to provide a clear regulatory framework at a national level for products made only with ingredients of plant origin, vegan/vegetarian or similar, the National Food Institute (INAL) presented at the ordinary meeting No. 133 of the National Food Commission (CONAL) a survey of the products that are currently on the market.

Based on international regulatory frameworks such as the UE, Switzerland, and other countries, the voluntary use of the terms “vegetarian or vegan” was proposed.

The draft proposal discussed the definition, requirements, commercial identification, and labeling of vegan products and just finished the process of public consultation.
