Canada Updates the Table of Daily Values for Sodium and Potassium

The Food Directorate’s Bureau of Nutritional Sciences has updated the potassium and sodium values for specific age groups in the Table of daily values based on the updated 2019 Dietary Reference Intakes for sodium and potassium.
 
The Table sets out the reference values or recommended amounts of nutrients (the daily value) for specific age groups for nutrition labelling purposes. These are the reference points upon which the % daily values (DVs) in the Nutrition Facts table are based.
 
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) has published updated Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for sodium and potassium (2019). The DRIs are a comprehensive set of nutrient reference values for healthy populations that are used to inform nutrition policies and programs. Health Canada has updated the Table of daily values to reflect the new DRIs for specific age groups as follows:
