Sugar In Bag And Cubes

The European Commission Published Commission Regulation (EU) 2021/1156 of 13 July 2021 amending Annex II to Regulation (EC) N0 1333/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council and the Annex to Commission Regulation (EU) No 231/2012 as regards to steviol glycosides (E 960) and rebaudioside M produced via enzyme modification of steviol glycosides from Stevia were also published in the Official EU Journal.

This Regulation allows the use of rebaudioside M produced via the enzymatic step process (E960c) as a sweetener in the food categories where steviol glycosides are also currently authorised in the Food Additives Regulation Annex II of No 133/2003. The Regulation also amends ‘steviol glycosides’ (E 960) to ‘steviol glycosides from Stevia’ (E 960a) and includes a new group of steviol glycosides, including both substances.

The changes to the Regulation will enter into force on 3 August 2021. For food that contains ‘steviol glycosides (E 960) and which are labelled and placed on the market until 3 February 2023 will be permitted to be marketed under the current Regulation until food stocks are exhausted.
