Japan Revises Specifications and Standards for Food Additives

Pesticides Residues In Food Apple

On 25 June 2021, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan issued a Notice, which amends the “Specifications and Standards for Food Additives”.

Key points to note in the regulatory changes are as follows:

  • Amendments to the residue limit standards for four kinds of pesticides and veterinary drugs in food: dichloroisocyanuric acid, buflufenapyr, thiazamide and thiensulfuron.
  • The Notice and changes will be implemented from the date of publication, but some food products will have one-year transition period.
