SFDA Issues A New Technical Regulation for Food Supplements

In October 2021, SFDA published on the Istitlaa platform a new draft technical regulations for ‘food supplements’ for public and private review and comments.

This technical regulation aims to clarify all packaged nutritional supplements intended to enhance one or more specific nutrients in the diet.

This project draft covers food supplements that may contain vitamins, minerals, or other substances with nutritional or physiological effects, which include, but are not limited to, fatty acids, amino acids, enzymes, beneficial bacteria and probiotics, collagen, dietary fiber, melatonin, propolis, pollen, herbal or herbal extracts, and others.

Comments shall be submitted through the Istitlaa platform no later than 28th December 2021.

The industry will be given a reasonable period of time for implementation once the technical regulation is approved and published.
